4 Things You Can Do For Your Not-So-Tech-Savvy Mother!

It’s time to embrace them on social media

So Mother’s Day is a few days away and while you’re thinking of what to get your mother, we’re thinking of ways you can DO something for them instead because actions always speak louder than words.

We’re all becoming very technologically savvy and moving together with the developments, but some Asian mothers still struggle to keep up.

If your mother is the ‘old school’ type who tries her best to fit in (because who likes to be left out?), here are 5 things you can do that actually shows you love her!

4. TEACH HER HOW TO SEND VOICE NOTES

Have you received voice messages on Whatsapp but with no message? All you hear is the fan spinning in the background.  Or have you been spammed with ten short voice notes with a message that could have been delivered in one?

Well, that just means our mothers just learnt about voice note technology from their technologically ‘atas’ friends and want to experiment it, but don’t know how to.

Well let’s not discourage them. This Mother’s Day, sit with them and teach them how to send a proper voice note!

3. TEACH HER HOW TO MAKE VIDEO CALLS

It’s okay, we understand that sometimes we want to see them but we’re far away. We video call or Facetime them but all we see is an exhibition of the ceiling fan, lights and the spiderwebs… (yes, we’re exaggerating)

Demonstrate the proper way of holding the phone when you’re on a video call. Your patience is the biggest gift for them!

2. OPEN AN INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT FOR THEM IF THEY WANT TO HAVE ONE!

We’ve all been there. The moment our mothers find out about that one new app, and the next thing they’d do is ask us “Do you have this app?”

And if our answer is a yes, they’d go “I want it too. Can I be your friend?”

If you can relate to this, we feel you.

Well, as much as we don’t want them to the other side of us on social media, they just want to be the ‘cool’ mother that understands.

Open an account, have a walkthrough of how it works, teach her the double taps and you’d be delighted to wake up to a spam of notifications from her the next day!

1. TEACH THEM HOW TO ADD/ACCEPT FRIEND REQUESTS, UPLOAD PHOTOS ETC.

All mothers pretty much have Facebook now but what they do with it might amaze us!

Have you ever checked their profiles ever since the day you created the account for them? Don’t be surprised if you check it now and find out that it looks exactly how you created it 3 years ago…

Sometimes, we’re so impatient that we just create an account for them because they bug our lives but don’t teach them how to do it. So they just end up living with what they’ve been offered…and they don’t even say anything about it because, mothers.

Sit with them and teach them to ‘Facebook’ the proper way. Teach them how to connect with old friends because right now, you’re the only friend she has on her friends list.

If your mother is technologically challenged, you might want to consider doing these for her this mother’s day. Trust us, being left out sucks.

What are some of the ‘tech’ things you’ve done for your Mom?
