Some people find their soulmates so easily and they live happily ever after. However, for some of us, finding a life partner is a horrendous task. Yes, dating apps exist but again we’ve got to be really lucky to find that one person (among the hundreds and thousands of people) at the right time.

One man from Madras, India had come up with a list of 5 unwritten rules of matrimonial or dating sites. From his 5 years of ‘experience’ interacting on these sites, he had summarized the do’s and don’ts for anyone who wants to give it a try.

In his ‘rant’, he pointed out that everyone should respect the other person’s efforts and time in reaching out. He also added a disclaimer that his rules are gender-neutral. So let’s hear his 5 rules out!

  1. DON’T Hide Your Photo

This can be misleading and in his words, ‘irritating’. He said that photos give someone the first impression and no matter how insecure you feel about your appearance, it’s important for the other person to make a call. Things should be fair and people should know who we’re looking at, so your first name is equally important!

  1. Have A Meaningful Bio

He advised people to take some time to describe yourself. Generic descriptions like ‘funny’, ‘modern’, ‘independent’ etc are not helpful at all. What’s important are your hobbies, passions, expectations of lifestyle, children, education, career, family etc. If you’re looking for someone long term, at least put some effort into presenting yourself well.

  1. Manage Your Profile

This one’s for people who use matrimonial sites. It’s common in India to find an eligible bachelor or bachelorette through matrimonial sites. So, he said that it’s important that you filter out who you like and dislike yourself, instead of leaving it to your parents to decide.

  1. Be Honest About What You Want

There are filters on dating apps for a reason. Be specific and honest when you search for or fill in those filters. If you don’t want a child, say it. If you want to move abroad soon, be honest about it. It’s unfair for the other person to create a good connection with you and then finding out later that your tastes don’t match.

  1. DON’T Leave Them Hanging

If someone shows interest in getting to know you and if you have opened the chat, it’s best that you respond immediately. This waiting game isn’t going to take you far, according to the man in his thirties. If you’re busy, make sure you respond at least within 3 days. Anything more than that shows that you don’t respect the other person’s time or effort.

If you don’t see a connection, that’s totally fine. Just let them know it’s not working. Do NOT ghost them.

Wow. That’s a pretty detailed list. Are you guilty of any of the above? What’s a rule you go by when you use dating apps?
