If you’ve been a horror film enthusiast, we’re pretty sure you’d love our Malaysian horror films that can be funny, and at the same time chill you to your bones.
It’s a little disappointing though to know that some great local movies find it hard to gain recognition worldwide because they really deserve it, so when we see news like this, it makes us really happy and proud.
Malaysia’s latest movie submission for consideration of an Oscars nomination is Roh, as recently announced by FINAS. The founder of production company, Kuman Pictures shared the good news on his Facebook:

The movie that was sent by a committee made up of Malaysian filmmakers, as well as key industry players in the field, tells the story about a mother, her two kids and a feral girl they find in the jungle.
Based on the criteria set by The Academy Awards, this movie apparently checks the boxes for its film direction, storyline, cinematography, acting and the music score. We watched the trailer and we love it too!
The Academy Awards, which is scheduled to take place in April 2021, has the elusive International Feature Film Award category, and Malaysian film-makers have been trying to get a spot there for a long time now.
We really hope the small budget film will get the recognition it deserves. The movie has participated in a few international film festivals in Italy, Singapore and New York.
Finger crossed, Roh. We are rooting for you!
