The foundation commended the teacher, Malaysia’s sole candidate, for going the extra mile to help students who face diverse challenges, from sight and sound impairments to autism and Down’s Syndrome, cope with daily lessons.

“I only wanted to share my experience and show how every teacher has the power to change the lives of special children.” He explained.

Malay Mail reported that Muhammad Khairul Ahmad’s teachings charges life lessons that go beyond the classroom setting. He came up with an inclusive education model to develop their social integration skills, thus allowing them to enter mainstream schools. Muhammad Khairul is the seventh Malaysian to be shortlisted for this prestigious award.

Varkey Foundation and Global Teacher Prize founder Sunny Varkey hoped that Muhamad Khairul’s story would inspire others entering the teaching profession. He added that it was important to return teaching to its rightful place as one of the most respected professions in society.

We agree, teachers do play an important role in a student's life. Not only do they educate their students in acedemic topics, a good teacher also nurtures children into becoming good human beings and valuable members of society.
