Fans of The Lord Of The Rings, your journey across this Middle Earth and this wonderfully crafted tale is not over yet!

This is because the next book in the series titled The Fall of Gondolin has been announced, and will apparently go on sale on the 30th of August this year – though we may have to wait a bit longer for it to hit our shelves in Malaysia.

The book, which was described by JRR Tolkien as “the first real story of this imaginary world”, occurs long before Frodo and Sam helped save Middle Earth by destroying the Ring in the fires of Mordor.

Instead it centres around the battle between Tuor and Morgoth’s army, and how the elvish city of Gondolin was founded and built. Tuor is said to be one of Aragon’s ancestors, and along with Aragon, are two of only three mortals to marry an elf.

Morgoth – formally known as Melkor – on the other hand, is described as one of the most powerful immortal spirits that existed before Middle Earth was created and a “pretty bad dude”. How bad? Well, Sauron, the main antagonist in The Lord of the Rings used to serve Morgoth as his principal lieutenant.

To further stoke our enthusiasm for this new book, Tolkien biographer John Garth has this to say about the latest book: “The battle that takes place at Gondolin is the author's biggest battle narrative outside of The Lord of the Rings”.

We can’t wait till we get our hands on this book!
