The Olympics Must Be Held “At Any Cost”, Says Japan Olympic Minister.

All measures against the coronavirus are being taken, nevertheless.

The pandemic has caused many events to come to a halt this year. Together with the MetGala, the Oscars, the movie releases being postponed, the Olympics had also been moved to 2021, hoping that things will get better by then.

However, at the rate we are going right now… we really aren’t sure if things will definitely look better in the coming year but Japan’s Olympic minister, Seiko Hashimoto has his mind made up.

He recently announced that the already rescheduled Tokyo Games will go on “at any cost” in 2021.

He added that everyone involved is working together to prepare the athletes and they’d put all efforts on measures to fight against the coronavirus.

The organisers are deciding on the best way to deal with COVID-19, including easing travel restrictions for athletes, anti-virus measures and how to manage spectators.

Although chief executive Toshiro Muto has said that the Games will “not be done with great splendour”, it does still sound like a risk considering the increasing number of cases in the country and around the world.

Currently, there are over 71,800 cases in Japan alone, with 1,363 deaths reported to date.

There are, in total, 206 teams from all over the world competing, however it is still doubtful that all participating athletes from countries that have the virus under control will be coming.

Well, we really do hope things get better soon. The only way to make things better is to be better ourselves, and keep practicing safety measures.

While we look forward to the Olympics, let’s also work towards flattening the curve.
