Imagine yourself boarding a flight to Germany and you sit back in your seat, excited to arrive… and then the Captain announces that you’re in Scotland!?
Um… what?
A UK airline made that blunder recently, when it took off in the wrong direction and landed in Scotland, instead of Germany.
No one was harmed in the turn of events, although we’re pretty sure they weren’t too happy to sit in the plane for another 525 miles to get to where they were supposed to be!
The airline explained that its flight plan was actually filed by WDL Aviation, which operated the flight on behalf of them. Thus, the pilot, cabin crew and the air traffic controllers had no idea that the flight went in a completely different direction, until they actually landed!
One of the passengers told CNN that she knew something was wrong when she saw mountains instead of the usual German ‘industrial landscape’ upon landing. She and her colleague then checked out Google maps to confirm their doubts.
Thankfully, several passengers actually found the situation rather funny, and the airline has since apologized to the passengers on the flight for the mistake.
