Facebook is taking the big bro/sis role in making sure you ‘behave’ on social media. With misinformation and the spreading of fake news growing, the social media platform has announced that it will start testing a new feature, which will guilt-trip you into reading any article before you share it.

In case you’re sharing an article after just reading its title, Facebook will show a prompt, nudging you to open it.
Starting today, we’re testing a way to promote more informed sharing of news articles. If you go to share a news article link you haven’t opened, we’ll show a prompt encouraging you to open it and read it, before sharing it with others. pic.twitter.com/brlMnlg6Qg

This initiative comes after Twitter started similar testing in June 2020, and showed an encouraging result.
You can still share without reading it by tapping on the “Continue Sharing” button, but let’s try not to. Let’s be responsible and stop the spread of false information.
