The ever-popular 90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is getting a reboot, but not in the way you’d expect.

It seems the show will not be a comedy, but instead a hard-hitting drama, with original star Will Smith set to executive produce.
The project will be based on a YouTube trailer that went viral last year, and reimagined the hit comedy as a serious drama telling the story of a working-class Philadelphia teen adapting to life with his richer family in Los Angeles.
Smith will be working on the new series with director Morgan Cooper, who created the alternative Bel-Air trailer last year.
At the time the video came out, Smith had even praised it saying, “Morgan did a ridiculous trailer for Bel-Air. Brilliant idea – the dramatic version of The Fresh Prince for the next generation.”
According to Deadline, Bel-Air is being pitched to multiple streamers and has created a bidding war.
Meanwhile, no further details on the Fresh Prince reboot have been revealed.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air originally ran from 1990-1996 for six seasons, and basically shot Smith to superstardom as an actor.
