We’ve got a real-life princess of the sea!
Enter Halle Bailey, the new Ariel in the live action reboot of Little Mermaid.
It’s been confirmed that the one half of R&B duo, Chloe x Halle, is set to act as Ariel and had been top choice for director Rob Marshall.
He added that the 19 year-old songstress possesses a rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence and substance…
All that plus a beautiful voice!
We think all these traits would make her a perfect fit for the role.
Earlier this week, we got to know that Melissa McCarthy was being considered as the sea witch, Ursula and Jacob Tremblay as well as Awkwafina are also in the talks for being Ariel’s friends, Flounder and Scuttle respectively.
Halle clearly seems to be happy about the news because come on, who wouldn’t want to be a mermaid?!

Halle Bailey, a Black teens who wears locs, being cast as a Disney princess is what dreams are made of. Imagine what just seeing her onscreen will do for this generation of Black girls.

I look forward to taking my daughter to see Halle Bailey as Ariel in the live action version of Little Mermaid. She'll be ecstatic seeing another girl of color as a Disney princess. I will have to tolerate the songs, but...worth it.
