90% Chance Of Super El Nino This Year

There’s a 90 percent chance that El Nino will reach the ‘very strong’ category when it hits later this year.

The Met Department says its forecasts and weekly observations points towards the so-called Super El Nino, which will likely be one of the most extreme weather events ever recorded.

Its also not ruling out a repeat of the high temperatures during the previous phenomenon in 1998 where Chuping in Perlis exceeded 40 degrees Celsius.

El Nino is expected to bring hotter and drier conditions between October and December, followed by a significant reduction in rainfall from February to May.

It told The Star that the ageing trend in Kampar is due to younger residents moving out for work, and retirees returning there for a quieter life.
