The Attorney-General’s Chambers has lodged an appeal against the acquittal of the teenager in the Bandar Utama school stabbing case.  

It confirmed that a notice of appeal was submitted to the Court of Appeal earlier this week.  

The 15-year-old was charged with murdering the victim last year.  

He was acquitted and discharged by the Shah Alam High Court after ruling that he was of unsound mind during the offence.  

He was then ordered to be detained at the pleasure of the Sultan of Selangor,  where he will receive treatment for his psychiatric condition.

MCMC will continue to work closely with the police to curb the spread of online child sexual abuse material and bring offenders to justice.

The Communications Ministry says MCMC will support investigations with its technical and forensic expertise.

The focus will be on identifying, tracking and prosecuting those involved.

The ministry said this, after 53 people, including a 13-year-old, were recently arrested in an operation targeting the spread of such material.

In related news, the Malaysian Human Rights Commission says minors arrested for such offences should not be treated the same way as adults.

According to Suhakam, each case should be assessed individually to determine whether underage suspects were groomed, exploited or coerced.

It also called for counselling, digital safety education and rehabilitation to form part of the response.
