Man City have the upper hand over Man Utd in EFL semis

Jan 08, 2020

Manchester City are one step closer to their third successive EFL Cup final, after beating local rivals Manchester United 3-1, in the first leg of their semifinal clash.

However, City boss Pep Guardiola says they're not guaranteed a place in the final despite the result.

"It's not over, it's United and we see how they can come back, last season for example against PSG, they score goals and get a good result but hopefully with our fans, we can make a good game and reach the final again."

Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez both got on the scoresheet, before an own goal from United's Andreas Pereira all but sealed the win for the defending champions.

The return leg will be held at the Etihad in three weeks.
