EC Confirms Melaka Election Dates

The Melaka state election will be held on November 14th. 

In an announcement today, the Election Commission also said nomination day will be on October 31st, while early voting will be carried out on November 10th.

A total of 28 seats will be contested in the election. 

It follows the dissolution of the state assembly on September 23rd.

Progress on the proposed Senior Citizens Bill has been slow because of repeated consultations with stakeholders.

The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry says some parties have had to be consulted more than once, as the government wants to be thorough with any proposals raised during the engagement process. 

It adds that the bill, which is aimed at protecting senior citizens from neglect, abuse and exploitation, is now in the final stages of drafting.

More awareness needs to be raised about the Anti Bullying Tribunal as a dedicated channel for addressing bullying cases involving kids and teenagers. 

De-facto Law Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said says this will help ensure that victims are aware that there’s an alternative way to lodge complaints, if their schools fail to take appropriate action.

In other news...

The Transport Ministry says the government is still refining the details of the move to make it compulsory for drunk drivers who cause fatal accidents to pay compensation to the victim’s families.

The National Unity Ministry will review the effectiveness of existing laws and enforcement mechanisms, in addressing issues related to race, religion and royalty as well as hate speech.

And, KLIA says its aerotrain service will be temporarily paused between midnight and 5AM from tomorrow until the 17th…and again in November...for a scheduled software update.
