Economic Pressure To Continue Despite US-Iran Truce

Malaysians could continue to feel the economic effects of the West Asian crisis for some time yet, despite the current ceasefire between Iran and the US.

Govt spokesman, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil says the Cabinet and National Economic Action Council was told that Gulf States would need several months to repair energy infrastructure that was damaged in the conflict.

He adds it will also take time clear some 2,000 ships that are currently stranded along the Strait of Hormuz.

Since the announcement of the ceasefire, the benchmark Brent crude fell by about 13 percent to just under 95 dollars a barrel.

However, the price is still 30 percent higher than before the start of the war.
