The electricity subsidy threshold for domestic users has been increased to 800 kilowatt hours a month, until December 31st.
This is up from the previous threshold of 600 kilowatt hours.
The Prime Minister says this is an immediate measure to help ease the burden of households that are facing higher electricity bills…due to increased consumption amid the haze and hot weather.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim adds that government will also continue to assess fuel costs and other developments in the energy market, to ensure that any future decision about the electricity tariff will consider household affordability.

Around half of all monitoring stations nationwide are now recording unhealthy air quality levels.
At last look, Johan Setia in Selangor was the worst-affected, with an API reading of 194…which is just seven points shy of the very unhealthy level.
A further 34 localities across Selangor, Sarawak, Sabah, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Putrajaya, KL, Melaka, Johor and Pahang…are also experiencing unhealthy air quality.
Meanwhile, 30 areas in the Peninsular, Sabah and Sarawak are currently recording moderate API readings.

The Fisheries Department says it has no conclusive evidence to support claims about a piranha population at a dam in Raub, Pahang.
