Govt To Reduce Costs Amid Middle East Crisis

The government is looking at several ways to reduce costs amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah says it may allow civil servants to work-from home, as well as reduce electricity and air-conditioning usage...

This, as officials are set to discuss the work-from-home matter on Tuesday before making an official announcement.

Meanwhile, Amir Hamzah also revealed that the country's monthly bill for the RON95 petrol subsidy has surged significantly.

This, following a sharp rise in global oil prices triggered by tensions in the Middle East.

However, Malaysians won’t have to worry, as the Prime Minister had earlier announced that subsidized fuel will remain at 1.99 sen per liter for the time being.

Malaysians also won't have to worry about food supplies during the Hari Raya season.

Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Sri Mat Sabu assured that the country has enough supplies including rice, chicken, eggs, fish, beef, milk, vegetables, and fruits to last until at least June.

This means everyone will be able to celebrate Raya at ease, since prices will remain under control...

On rice specifically, the government has agreed to increase the national stockpile to cover up to nine months.

Meanwhile, FOMCA is urging people to remain calm and to refrain from panic buying essentials.

Instead, consumers are encouraged to focus on spending more prudently and reducing wastage.
