M'sia To Join UK‑France‑Led Talks On Strait of Hormuz

Malaysia will take part in a high-level international discussion regarding the Strait of Hormuz.  

PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan will represent Malaysia in the meeting, which is jointly organised by Britain and France.  

Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Anwar says one of the seven Malaysian fuel tankers that were stranded in the Hormuz Strait has already arrived in Malaysia and another is close to reaching our waters.  

Another vessel is unable to depart due to damage.

Also, the govt is ready to offer places at local universities to Malaysians whose overseas studies are affected by the Middle East crisis., if it’s necessary

The Higher Education Ministry says this includes those who have just received offers further their studies in the countries involved.

The Border Patrol and Protection Agency is expected to be equipped with firearms by the end of the year.  

The Home Ministry says it’s looking into the types of weapons they’ll be given, including handguns and tasers.  

This follows recent calls to arm AKPS personnel, after its commander for Bukit Kayu Hitam escaped a gun attack earlier this year.

The Statistics Dept says it expects Malaysia’s GDP growth to moderate to 5.3% in the first quarter of the year amid geopolitical tensions.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s inflation rate rose to its highest level in over a year in March, at 1.7%, amid higher transport costs.

And MetMalaysia says Perlis and 5 areas in Kelantan were under a Level 1 Heat Alert today, with max temperatures of between 35-37 degrees Celsius.
