NEWS | Flash Floods Hit Klang Valley

Flash floods were reported in several parts of the Klang Valley this afternoon following heavy rain.  

According to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Dept, a food court in Section 51A was flooded with waters that reached waist-level.  

However, no evacuations were carried out, and waters there are receding.  

Meanwhile, a fallen tree is reportedly causing traffic congestion along the KL-Seremban Highway near the exit to Desa Petaling.

The Education Ministry is drawing up new safety guidelines following recent accidents in schools.  

At the same time, it reminded all school administrators to continuously emphasise safety when using vehicles within school premises.

Last month, a Form 1 student in Kota Bharu, Kelantan died after being struck by a teacher’s car.

Meanwhile yesterday, a Year Two pupil died after being hit by a delivery van at her school in Batu Pahat, Johor.

Speaking of the Batu Pahat incident, the van driver has since been remanded for three days while police investigate him for alleged reckless or dangerous driving.  

If he’s charged and convicted, he faces a penalty of between 5-10 years in prison, and fined up to RM50,000.
