Malaysia’s very own Covid-19 vaccine is still in early development.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba says pre-clinical testing will be conducted on small and large animals in the next stage, with human trials to follow soon after.

The vaccine is being developed by the Institute for Medical Research Malaysia and Universiti Putra Malaysia.

The Health Ministry reported 4,611 Covid-19 cases yesterday, along with 69 deaths.

Malaysia has not seen new case numbers reach this low since mid last month.

The number of active cases is currently on a 16-day downtrend, at 62,000.

Parents can start registering children, above the age of 12, for the Covid-19 jab by adding them as dependents on the MySejahtera app.

Children will begin receiving vaccinations during the fifth phase of the national immunisation programme, which is expected to begin in August.
