The government cannot rush into lifting the ban on inter-state travel.

Senior Defense Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein says they have a duty to the rakyat to ensure the reopening of state borders is done as safely as possible.

This includes taking into the account the number of fully vaccinated individuals, and ensuring that hospitals in the various states have the capacity to deal with Covid-19, in the event of a potential outbreak triggered by travel.

The Public Service Department is considering making it compulsory for civil servants to get the Covid-19 vaccine, except for those who are exempted for health reasons.

The Department says currently, only around two percent of government employees have yet to be immunized.

Despite the small number, it says the matter needs to be addressed urgently, so that it doesn’t affect the people’s confidence when dealing with civil servants.

The United Nations has reprimanded the international community for what it called an unethical Covid vaccination rollout.

It says it is unacceptable that the majority of wealthier nations have been immunized, while more than 90 percent of Africa has yet to receive even a single dose.

The tremors were also felt as far away as Sydney and Adelaide.

There have so far been no reports of major injuries, although some properties in Melbourne sustained damage.
