The government has tabled a proposed amendment to the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act.

Those who flout SOPs would be subject to a fine of up to RM 10,000, while companies that do the same face up to a whopping RM1 million compound.

Currently, both individuals and companies are subjected to a maximum penalty of RM1,000.

The Health Ministry says the amendment is necessary to act as a deterrent against offences that could lead to a spike in disease infection.
