The Yang DiPertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong have extended their Thaipusam greetings to all Hindus in Malaysia.

In a post on the official Istana Negara social media account, Their Majesties hoped the festival would foster the spirit of unity and brotherhood among the country’s diverse communities.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has also conveyed his best Thaipusam wishes, wishing devotees a peaceful and festive celebration.

This, as thousands of devotees and visitors continue to throng Batu Caves…which is one of three main locations for Thaipusam ceremonies besides Penang and Ipoh.

Police say nearly 1,600 personnel will be deployed in shifts in and around Batu Caves today, to ensure security and smooth traffic in the vicinity.

The number of flood evacuees in Terengganu has surged to over 1,600 as of this morning…with the victims housed at relief centers in Dungun, Kemaman, Setiu, Hulu Terengganu and Besut.

According to the Social Welfare Department’s portal…there are also around 350 evacuees in Kelantan…and some 160 victims in Pahang.

The Deputy Prime Minister says the government will introduce a new hiring policy for civil servants…that will see new permanent hires having to make EPF contributions instead of receiving pensions.

Existing full-time government employees, however, will continue to receive their pension benefits.

Malaysia will participate in next month’s public hearing at the International Court of Justice, on Israel’s policies and practices in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

The Foreign Ministry says our officials will deliver their oral statement on the 22nd.
