There will be a heavy police presence over the Chinese New Year festive period.

Bukit Aman says more than 6,500 officers and personnel will be on duty nationwide, to keep an eye on traffic.

There will also be motorcycle patrols, to ensure that homes remain safe while the occupants return to their hometowns.

Meanwhile, the JPJ has imposed a four-day ban on heavy vehicles using major roads and highways during the festive season exodus.

The ban will be in effect tomorrow and Friday…as well as next Monday and Tuesday.

Malaysia is now averaging around five murder cases a week.

Utusan quoted the IGP as saying that more than 740 homicide cases have been reported nationwide between 2021 and 2023.

Disputes and misunderstandings have been identified as the most common motive for the murders, followed by jealousy, revenge and debt.

The Communications Minister has acknowledged that the country needs new laws to tackle cybercrime…to help us keep up with the rapid advancement in technology.

Fahmi Fadzil explains that the government will also learn from other countries on how to enact such legislation, including to govern new technology like Artificial Intelligence.

He adds that the relevant departments and agencies will be taking immediate steps to address this issue.
