mkn: take precautions during hot spell

The National Security Council is advising people to take the necessary health precautions amid the hot and dry spell hitting several areas nationwide.  

This includes drinking lots of water, and dressing appropriately if you need to go outside.  

This, as Pokok Sena Kedah was placed under a Level-2 Heatwave Alert for a 2nd consecutive day today, with temperatures of between 37-40 degrees Celsius.  

17 other areas in Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor were under a Level 1 heat alert.  

A Level 1 alert is also in place for Limbang, Sarawak and Beaufort, Sabah.

The government could introduce more initiatives to encourage the use of electric vehicles.  

International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Liew Chin Tong says this includes a proposed one-off subsidy for the purchase of electric cars.  

This would be similar to a scheme under Budget 2024, which offers rebates for the purchase of electric motorcycles..  

He told the Dewan Rakyat this can help boost the local electric vehicle industry and reduce petrol subsidies in the long term.

The Court of Appeal has reinstated 4 abuse of power charges against former PM Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin linked to the Jana Wibawa programme.  

This is after the appellate court granted the prosecution's application to set aside an earlier High Court decision to strike out the charges.

And US president Joe Biden has won the Democratic party's Michigan primary, ahead of the presidential election in November.  

This is despite a significant protest vote by some Democrats who criticised Biden's support for Israel over the war in Gaza.
