KLIA Shooter Remanded

The KLIA shooting suspect has been remanded for seven days.

The 38-year-old was brought to the Kota Bahru magistrates court this morning, where the judge ordered him to be held until the 22nd to assist with police investigations.

The suspect was nabbed in Kelantan yesterday, after he opened fire on his wife at the KLIA arrival hall early Sunday morning…missing her but injuring her bodyguard.

The government is closely monitoring the current situation in the middle east…and will take proactive steps to ensure the safety of Malaysian nationals there.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says the National Security Council has already met to discuss the matter…in the wake of escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.

Meanwhile, the Higher Education Ministry says it will consider repatriating Malaysian students from the middle east if the situation there worsens.

More areas have been placed under Met Malaysia’s level one heat alert.

Currently, Perlis…as well as 20 other localities in Kedah, Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Putrajaya, Kelantan, Sarawak and Sabah can expect daily temperatures of up to 37 degrees Celsius.

Mussels from Port Dickson are still not safe for consumption.

The Negeri Sembilan Fisheries Department says a second test on the shellfish there still shows higher-than-permitted levels of biotoxins.

Results of a third test are expected later this week.

Australian police are treating the stabbing at a church in Sydney as a terrorist attack.

They say the incident, where a teenager injured several people, including a bishop, was likely motivated by religious extremism.

It was the second major stabbing in Sydney this past week…after six people were killed in a separate shopping mall knife attack over the weekend.
