A new COVID-19 variant spreading in the Philippines has been detected in Sarawak.

As such, everyone has been urged to continue following SOPs to prevent the emergence of new variants that could affect vaccine efficacy possibly leading to more severe infections.

Police say the maximum fine amount for SOP violations committed by small businesses such as roadside traders and hawkers, is RM2,000.

The Deputy IGP says state police chiefs will be instructed to follow the new guideline, which was issued by the Health Ministry earlier this week.

This comes after several individuals running small businesses were recently slapped with large compounds for breaching COVID-19 rules.
