Police are ready to face the increase in traffic volume brought on by today's Cameron Highlands by-election.

Pahang police say some 100 traffic policemen have been deployed to ensure smooth traffic flow on all roads there.

Today's by-election will witness a four-cornered fight between Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional and two independents.

The Election Commission is expecting a 70% voter turnout in the by-election, the result of which is expected to be announced by 10pm.

US President Donald Trump has conceded to mounting pressure to end the longest US govt shutdown in history.

On the 35th day of the partial govt shutdown, Trump said a deal has been reached to temporarily reopen it with no funding for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico  border.

Earlier, Trump demanded 5.7 billion dollars of funding for a wall on the southern border, but the Democrats refused and the shutdown dragged on for weeks.

They've now reached a deal to reopen the federal govt for three weeks until February 15th.
