You are not required to hand over your phone number if stopped by cops
Police officers have the right to ask you for your identification documents such as your IC or driver's license, if you're stopped at a roadblock.
However, Dr Farah Nini Dusuki, a senior law lecturer from UM, told us this doesn't include your personal telephone number…
“You don't have to give your phone number because there is no reason, you can ask, why is it that your phone number is required because your phone number will only be required for example if you are in the process of being investigated for a particular crime.”
This comes after a viral claim alleged that a cop forced an individual to give up their phone number while at a roadblock earlier this month.
