No Cap On SPM, STPM Entry Into Local Uni's

There is no fixed limit on the number of SPM and STPM holders being admitted into higher education institutions.

The Higher Education Ministry says its aim is to provide the broadest possible access.

It adds that this year alone, around 100 thousand SPM leavers and 75 thousand STPM grads will have the opportunity to continue their studies in universities and TVET institutes.

The Attorney General’s Chambers is looking into proposals to set up a special tribunal to handle compensation claims by families of crime victims.

The AG says the idea requires careful study to ensure it can be implemented effectively…adding that such a tribunal, if set up, should operate within the existing legal framework.

This comes amid growing calls for a dedicated body and structured mechanism to ensure that families of crime victims, receive compensation, especially in fatal cases.

The 71-year-old suspect in a brazen daytime shooting at a restaurant in Kota Tinggi, has been remanded for seven days to assist the investigation. 

Three people - two local men and a foreign woman - were killed in the incident. 

Cops have so far ruled out gang-activity and terrorism and are looking at a loan dispute as a possible motive.

Police have recaptured a Pakistani national who fled from the Sungai Buloh prison earlier this month.

The 24-year-old was picked up in Gombak after more than a week on the run, during which he’s believed to have hidden in forests and construction sites.
