No More RM1 ATM Fee

Good news for cash users in Malaysia!  

Banks in the country will waive the RM1 fee for interbank cash withdrawals at ATMs and SRMs nationwide starting in July.  

The initiative will allow debit cardholders to make unlimited free withdrawals at more than 14 thousand machines nationwide.

Over 66 thousand online scam cases were recorded last year.  

This figure is an 87% increase compared to the same period in 2024.  

The IGP says the rise in such cases is alarming because it's also accompanied by escalating financial losses.  

In fact, victims lost nearly 3 billion ringgit last year...a sharp spike of 1.4 billion ringgit compared to the year prior.

As such, police are stepping up efforts to track down the masterminds behind online scams.

This, amid ongoing challenges posed by foreign syndicates using Malaysia as an operational base.

The nation's top cop adds that cops are working closely with law enforcement agencies in neighboring countries...including Singapore and other ASEAN countries...to curb-cross border scam activities.

The Communications Ministry says it's open to allowing social media platforms to use various government-issued documents for age verification purposes.  

However, MyDigital ID should be their preferred method.  

It's because the initiative offers a more privacy-friendly option since platforms will only receive confirmation of whether a user meets the minimum age requirement.  

This, compared to gaining access additional personal information.

Malaysia is stepping up efforts to cut its reliance on landfills.  

SWCorp says it's targeting to slash the figure from 61% to 52% by 2030.  

As such, the government will prioritize recycling and composting...to help reduce food waste.  

In fact, six thousand tons of edible food are being discarded by Malaysians every day.  

This is equivalent to 240 truck loads.
