Passport Services Counters To Temporarily Close

The Immigration Department will temporarily close its passport service counters at 71 offices nationwide for system maintenance.

During this period, passport applications submitted over the counter, applications via MyOnline Passport, and passport printing services will not be available at the affected branches.

The closure will be done in phases, with the first phase scheduled for June 26th to the 30th at the Putrajaya, Jln Duta, Melaka, Kelana Jaya and KLIA offices as well as nine UTC’s around the country.

The government has tabled amendments to the Road Transport Act that would make illegal racing a specific offence.

This would allow for a fine of up to 20 thousand ringgit or five years in jail for repeat offenders.

The Transport Ministry says the amendment will give authorities greater power to crack down on the menace, since existing laws do not specifically criminalize illegal racing or speed testing on public roads.

Amendments to the Prisons Bill have been tabled for first reading in Parliament…proposing the use of electronic monitoring devices for inmates.

It also calls for the appointment of volunteers, to assist officers in carrying out prisoner rehabilitation programs.

The Prime Minister has approved a 22 million ringgit allocation to equip Border Control and Protection Agency personnel with firearms.

The Home Ministry says the matter is being given urgent attention, following a shooting incident targeting one of the agency’s commanders in Kedah earlier this year.
