Restaurants Struggling To Cope With Rising Costs

Indian Muslim restaurants have been feeling the effects of rising costs.

The Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association told FMT costs of raw ingredients and packaging have gone up by as much as 30 percent since the middle of last year…and is now made worse by the crisis in West Asia.

It adds that restaurant operators are trying to absorb the additional costs, but may have to increase prices if the global energy crisis and war in Iran continue.

In a related development, ferry operators in Langkawi have cut their daily trips by 40 percent after industrial diesel prices almost doubled.

They’re also calling for government intervention and support to continue operations.

A total of five areas are now under a Level 2 heatwave warning with expected temperatures of between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days. 

They are Perlis, as well as Kota Setar, Sik, Pokok Sena and Pendang in Kedah.

A further 16 localities across Kedah, Penang, Perak, Pahang and Johor are also under the less severe Level 1 heat advisory.

Meanwhile, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia has called on the public to take the necessary precautions amid the current hot spell, including limiting prolonged outdoor activities and ensuring adequate hydration.
