Italy and England dominate Euro 2020 Team of the Tournament
Jul 14, 2021
Five players from champions Italy and three from runners-up England have been named in the Euro 2020 Team of the Tournament.
Italy’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, along with Leonardo Bonucci, Leonardo Spinazzola, Jorginho and Federico Chiesa were selected in the lineup.
England, meanwhile, had Kyle Walker, Harry Maguire and Raheem Sterling on the team.
Spain midfielder Pedri, Denmark’s Piere-Emile Hojbjerg and Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku completed the best 11 of the tournament.
England could be forced to play their upcoming home fixtures without spectators, after UEFA opened an investigation into the security incidents that marred the Euro 2020 final at Wembley.
It includes ticketless fans breaking into the stadium, booing the Italian national anthem, throwing objects onto the pitch and lighting fireworks.
England had earlier already been fined 30 thousand euros for other incidents during their semi-final win over Denmark, including a laser pointer being shone at the face of Danish keeper Peter Schmeichel.
Man United’s Marcus Rashford could miss at least two months of action, after deciding to have surgery to fix a shoulder problem.
The injury had affected Rashford in the latter half of last season, but the England international delayed seeking treatment so as not to miss Euro 2020.
20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer and British number one Jo Konta are the latest to pull out of the Tokyo Olympics.
Federer has suffered a setback with an existing knee injury, while Konta is still recovering from Covid-19.
