Stronger Action Needed To Tackle Nicotine Addiction

The Consumers Association of Penang is calling for a complete ban on all nicotine products, including conventional cigarettes, e-cigarettes and vapes, to protect the younger generation from addiction. 

Speaking in conjunction with World No Tobacco Day today, it says we face the risk of losing an entire generation to nicotine addiction.

It adds that Malaysians are getting hooked on the habit at an increasingly early age due to the easy availability and rising popularity of things like e-cigarettes and vapes.

The Public Service Department is pushing for action to be taken against those who spread false information that tarnishes the image of government ministries or agencies.

It says this is necessary to protect the credibility of government departments, since such fake news could undermine public confidence in the civil service.

It adds that cases warranting further action will be thoroughly investigated before being referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers.

The government is looking at implementing tougher laws and better monitoring technology, to address the growing problem of railway cable theft.

The Transport Ministry says this has become an issue of national security, and is causing disruptions to the operations of the national railroad service.

A bus driver with 29 outstanding traffic summonses has been arrested, for alleged reckless driving that led to a crash involving two buses and an MPV on the Genting Highlands road.

Six injuries were reported in the incident.
