Malaysians are now restricted to five prepaid sim cards per telco.
Non-Malaysians who are working or studying here, meanwhile, can register for no more than two prepaid sims per telco.
Also, kids below the age of 12 are not allowed to register for a prepaid sim.
Those between the ages of 12 and 17, however, can get their own sim if their parents or guardian registers for them.
The new ruling, which came into effect yesterday, is aimed at protecting consumers and fighting online scams.

More than 940 violation notices have been issued to offenders for littering across seven states as of this week.
SWCorp says only two of these notices were issued to foreigners, while the rest were given out to locals.
It adds that since the Community Service Order came into force last month…the most common form of litter found in public spaces was cigarette butts.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry says more than 140 thousand notices were issued last year for smoking in prohibited areas, including eateries.
