Argentina Pull Off Great Escape Against Egypt

Argentina are through to the quarterfinals of the football festival in North America, after a dramatic 3-2 win over Egypt.

The defending champions were two goals down with 11 minutes to go before Christian Romero, Lionel Messi and Enzo Fernandes all got on the scoresheet.

Argentina will next face Switzerland, who pulled off a 4-3 penalty shootout win over Colombia.

The match had finished goalless at the end of extra-time.

Meanwhile, Messi’s goal this morning brings his tally in the tournament to eight, one ahead of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

He is also now the first player in the competition’s history to score in six consecutive knockout stage matches.
