France Survive Paraguayan Onslaught

France coach Didier Deschamps hailed his side for keeping their cool in their 1-0 win over Paraguay in the last-16 of the Football Festival in North America.  

This, as France coped with Paraguay’s aggressive tactics, committing 13 fouls against the 2022 finalists, and especially targeted skipper Kylian Mbappe  

Despite the aggression, France advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to Mbappe’s second half penalty.  

They will next face Morocco, who defeated co-hosts Canada 3-0.

Meanwhile, Morocco’s coach has praised his team’s resilience, after they endured Canada’s constant pressure.  

He also believes that Morocco are no longer outsiders to win the competition, but are genuine contenders.

Brazil have received a major boost ahead of their last-16 clash against Norway.  

This, as boss Carlo Ancelotti said that Raphinha has made a faster-than-expected recovery from a hamstring injury, and could make the bench for tomorrow morning's match.  

He also hinted that Neymar could be given his first start of the competition, after only making one substitute appearance so far.

Meanwhile, England’s Reece James remains an injury doubt for their match against Mexico.

According to reports, he hasn’t fully recovered from a hamstring injury he picked up in their opening group match.  

However, Jarrell Quansah is back in training from a similar injury and could make an appearance.

Philippine tennis player Alexandra Eala has caused a major upset at Wimbledon after beating defending champion Iga Swiatek in the third round.  

Second seed, and 2022 champion Elena Rybakina also crashed out after losing in straight sets to Elise Mertens

And Lee Zii Jia’s run at the Canadian badminton Open has ended after he was beaten by Japan’s Riki Takei in the semifinals.  

It was his first appearance in a World Tour semi since the 2024 Australian Open.
