The football festival in North America could cost global employers up to US$17 billion in lost productivity, with many workers planning to adjust schedules to watch matches.

A survey in 8 countries found 27% of employees may arrive late, leave early, or skip work, while others admit to streaming games during office hours.

Managers are also affected, with many likely to take time off or request flexibility during the tournament period.

Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni says Lionel Messi is expected to be fit for their opening match for the tournament, despite a minor hamstring injury.

Scaloni also praised Messi’s enduring passion and elite performances, as the 38-year-old prepares to appear in an unprecedented 6th edition of the tournament.
