Come on, let’s admit it: you can’t help but at least be a little ambitious for your children’s future. You want them to be the next Lionel Messi, or the next Ariana Grande.

When you start noticing that your children are especially good at something, what do you do? Here are some tips on how you can nurture your children based on the talents they have…

#1 Your kid is good with words

… and usually, they express themselves by asking you a million and one questions when you get home from work. “Daddy, why are you early?” “Mummy, what’s that?” “Daddy, why do you eat with a spoon?”

Instead of telling them to be quiet, encourage your kid to learn new words. For example, when they say “cat”, elaborate on the word by saying “black cat”. This way their vocabulary will expand! Who knows, they could be the next JK Rowling when they grow up!

#2 Your kid is a whiz with numbers

Your child is starting to be good at counting. Naturally, you’re excited—numbers are the foundation of logic, science and technology. But how do you get them to develop this skill?

Start teaching them an object’s size in relation to other objects, such as their own size in comparison with other objects. Ask them questions such as, “Are you taller than the table?” and “Are you bigger than the car?” Keep it basic by using everyday things.

#3 Your kid is good at making art

Are you exasperated that they keep scribbling on the wall of your living room? They could be trying to find a way to express themselves creatively.

Instead of taking away their crayons, encourage them properly. Pour powder on tray and tell them to trace pictures with their fingers. Doing this often will soon develop their imagination and motor skills; all of which are important in developing a talent in art.

#4 Your kid is energetic and very active

They could be the next Messi! Instead of asking your kids to sit still, teach them about body balance. Give them a wooden plank and get them to stand on it while holding on to you.

You can let them struggle a bit—it’s a part of the learning process. Soon, they’ll have an agile, healthy and active body!

#5 Your kid has a flair with music

When your kid is watching their favourite show on TV, they start to sing along. And okay, they may be off-tune a lot of the time, but that’s no reason not to nurture this interest.

The basic things your child can learn is rhythm and body coordination. You can easily demonstrate to them how to clap to a song’s rhythm, and soon they’ll be able to immerse themselves in the music.
