Adele's spooky claims about her former mansion have reportedly scared off potential buyers.

The singer, 36, has been accused of making her former West Sussex estate “unsellable” after describing it as haunted in a 2012 interview. The current owner of the property, Nicholas Sutton, says Adele’s comments about the mansion, known as the Lock House, have hurt its reputation and hindered future marketing efforts.
According to planning documents obtained by The Times, Sutton said the mansion's haunted reputation continues to impact its sale prospects. Adele had rented the 10-bedroom property in 2012, and during a CBS interview with Anderson Cooper, she called the place “all quite scary, really.” She also claimed to have hired a female bodyguard to stay at the property after hearing mysterious noises.
The mansion is now listed for £5,995,000 (approx MYR 33.77 million) and boasts seven en suite bedrooms, an indoor pool, a guest cottage, and an outdoor tennis court and swimming pool. Despite these amenities, Sutton has struggled to find a buyer for the property. He even stated that a potential offer made in 2020 was withdrawn after the buyer learned of its allegedly haunted status, which Adele publicly discussed during her stay.

Having tried to sell the property for 14 years without success, Sutton now plans to convert the mansion into apartments, submitting a proposal to the Horsham district council. His previous attempt to convert the home into five apartments was rejected.
The property, built around 1909, was once a convent and later divided into several lots before being purchased by a church. Sutton acquired it in 2003. Despite the challenges, Sutton’s proposal aims to preserve the historical significance of the building while adapting it for modern use.
