“Today’s my birthday, and it has been the hardest year of my life,” James said in an Instagram video on March 8. The actor, who first revealed his diagnosis in 2023, spoke candidly about how the experience forced him to confront his mortality.

James reflected on how his sense of self has evolved over the years—from defining himself as an actor to finding deeper meaning as a husband and father.

“For a long time, I felt secure in identifying as a loving, capable husband, father, and provider,” he said. “Then, this year, I had to look my own mortality in the eye.”

His illness, which required extensive treatment, left him unable to fulfill those roles as he once had.

“I could no longer be a helpful husband, an involved father, or a provider for my family,” he admitted. “I wasn’t even strong enough to prune trees on our land.”

Despite the challenges, James found strength in the love of his family, his faith, and the overwhelming support from fans.

“I meditated, and the answer came through: I am worthy of God’s love simply because I exist. And if I’m worthy of God’s love, shouldn’t I also be worthy of my own?” he reflected.

He encouraged others to embrace that same belief: “If the word ‘God’ is a trigger, take it out. Your mantra can simply be, ‘I am worthy of love.’ Because you are.”

James expressed deep gratitude for the support he has received.

“As I move through this healing portal toward recovery, I know that all the prayers and love sent my way have helped me,” he said. “Thank you for your kindness. Have a blessed day.”
