Parents Can Now Limit Teen Screen Time on TikTok

TikTok has launched new parental controls to limit teen screen time, addressing growing concerns over mental health and digital addiction.

The feature, rolling out first in the EU and later in the US, allows parents to set time restrictions on their child's TikTok usage. Teens won’t be able to bypass the “Time Away” block without parental approval.

Following Instagram’s lead, TikTok will also let parents monitor their teen’s followers and block lists. Additionally, users under 16 will receive a nighttime “Meditation” prompt with relaxation exercises and music—though they can disable it.

The update comes as TikTok faces increasing scrutiny worldwide. France is launching an inquiry into its effects on children, and Albania is considering a year-long ban after an online dispute escalated into violence.

TikTok, boasting over a billion users, says it employs more than 6,000 moderators in Europe and removed over 24 million underage accounts last quarter. The platform claims to delete 95% of inappropriate content within 24 hours.
