Sometimes, it’s true what people say, things really do last when you take care of them. Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was seen in a blue first edition Proton Saga bearing the registration number Proton 1 with Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim yesterday, while on his way to the airport.

Here’s a fun fact: the car, which is still in excellent condition, was gifted by Tun Dr Mahathir to Sultan Ibrahim’s father, the late Sultan Iskandar Sultan Ismail about 34 years ago!
Sultan Ibrahim personally drove Dr Mahathir to the Senai International Airport from Istana Bukit Serene, where they had their 90-minute meeting earlier. According to a source from the Prime Minister’s office, Sultan Ibrahim requested for the meeting a few weeks ago, making it the first time the duo had met in Johor since the 14th General Election.
The Proton Saga definitely plays on our emotions, since it was the model that marked the first year when Malaysia became a car-producing country. Can we just be nostalgic for a bit, please?
